Rob Bredow

Rob Bredow is a visual effect supervisor and the creative technology supervisor for Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Bredow is currently the visual effects supervisor on Sony Pictures Animation’s CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS—the taste-full comedy inspired by the perennially popular children’s book of the same name by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett.

As creative technology supervisor, Bredow brings a strong production artist perspective to decisions regarding the company’s technology and innovation. Recently, Bredow has been instrumental in improving the company’s lighting and rendering pipeline to improve both the artists feedback and the final quality of the images for both live-action and animated feature work.

Bredow is renowned for his ability to mesh visual effects, animation and innovative technology into a seamless whole. In 2007, Bredow served as visual effects supervisor on SURF’S UP, which was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature, and won two Annie Awards.  This critically acclaimed movie is the latest to showcase Bredow’s ability to create completely believable water effects that meet the requirements of both art and physics.

In 2004 Bredow completed work supervising Robert Zemeckis’ THE POLAR EXPRESS, overseeing the hair, cloth and effects animation teams as well as a large number of sequences in the film.

While at Imageworks, Bredow has also been involved in creating many of the complex visual effects featured in STUART LITTLE 2 and CAST AWAY. His work was individually recognized with an Annie Award® nomination for best individual achievement in effects animation on STUART LITTLE, which featured a beloved mouse who became the first all-digital character to star in a live action film.

Bredow’s other credits include visual effects supervisor on the feature film MEGIDDO and director of R&D at VisionArt, where he developed visual effects for the films GODZILLA and the Academy Award® winning INDEPENDENCE DAY, among others.

Bredow is an acknowledged expert in the field of effects animation, shading and rendering and enjoys sharing his work with the greater computer graphics community through various publications and conferences around the world.
