Howard is currently in post-production on the film adaptation of the best-selling memoir Hillbilly Elegy, is in production on the documentary Rebuilding Paradise. His most recent film, the documentary Pavarotti, about famed tenor and larger than life talent Luciano Pavarotti, opened to rave reviews.

Howard made his directorial debut in 1977 with the comedy Grand Theft Auto. He began his career in film as an actor, first appearing in The Journey and The Music Man.
